after a fall that incapacitated her.

until she was sixteen. Her parents sent her back to the US to strive for a better life
and to help them. She was on her own from that time on.
In 1941 she met the love of her life, Alex, at a dance in New York City. They were married a
year later. In 1950 they decided to move to Southampton because they loved the clean fresh air
and the water. They raised two daughters and settled comfortably in their new home.
Genevieve was a member of the Madam Curie Society of Our Lady of Poland Church and a
active member of the parish until 2009 when she moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida with her
daughter and son in law. She was employed by The Meadow Club of Southampton as a
laundress for over thirty years. She was a founding resident of Sonata of Melbourne which is an
independent living facility. There she enjoyed living with other residents and had an active
social life playing bingo and attending happy hours and hosting get togethers in her apartment.
Genevieve was an avid knitter and crocheted. She once made eight Irish Knit sweaters for
Christmas for her daughters, sons in law and four grandchildren. She started in August and was
finished by Christmas. The love of her life was her husband, Alex. They were married for
almost 69 years. They enjoyed being together, and taking care of their home on Layton
Avenue. She was a devoted wife and mother who was dearly loved by her family. She is pre
deceased by her parents, her husband and a brother Edward Kaniecki, and a sister Adela
