    Born: August 23, 1931
    Died:  November 9, 2013
    Age:  82

Born 08/23/1931 at home in Southampton, NY to the late Elfreida and Harold Lewis.  Passed away on 11/09/2013 from complications due to a stroke in Port Jefferson, NY.  Attended Southampton Public Schools and excelled in basketball and baseball.  After graduation from high school, as a strong hitting southpaw first baseman he tried out for minor league baseball. George joined the US Navy, became trained as an aviation electrician and was aboard the USS Hornet aircraft carrier in the Pacific during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged and attended Farmingdale College on the GI Bill where he studied aeronautical engineering and was the first baseman on their championship baseball team. He later played ball for the Bridgehampton Blue Sox. George's career at Grumman Corporation spanned over 30 years and he would still get together regularly with a bunch of Grummanites for lunch.  He married the late Pamela Gaynor Lewis on 09/09/1961 and celebrated almost 44 years of marriage.  She was the love of his life.  George was very active in the community, volunteering for the Southampton Fire Dept Hook and Ladder Co, of which he was still an exempt member, and their Benevolent Assoc.  He was active at St. John's Episcopal Church as a regular usher on Sunday mornings and a long time Vestry member. George also served many years on the Southampton Village Planning Board.  He enjoyed golf and had been a member of Southampton Golf Club and Olde Hickory Golf Club in Fort Myers, FL where he and Pam had enjoyed eleven years of retirement.  He was a NY Giants and NY Yankees fan.  He leaves to mourn him his two daughters and their families, Pamela Lewis Forrest and her husband Jon and daughter Samantha of Glastonbury, CT and Gail Lewis Sousa and her husband Joe and daughter Quinn and son Christopher of Parkland, FL.

He also leaves 4 sisters, Bernice(John) Holden of Southampton, Mary(Merrill) Hildreth of Sagaponack, Dot(Gil)Tennant of Southampton and Nancy(Tom) Sayre of VA and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Graves and her husband Stewart.

In Lieu of Flowers Memorial Donations may be made in his honor to The Southampton Fire Department Benevolent Association, PO Box 499, Southampton, NY 11968 or St John's Episcopal Church.
