    Born: June 15, 1933
    Died: September 9, 2010

Dorothy Jones Hedges of Bridgehampton died on Thursday, September 9.  She was 77.

Born June 15, 1933, in Southampton, she was the daughter of Walter and Teresa Jones.  After attending Sacred Hearts School, she graduated salutatorian from Southampton High School, in 1951, and then briefly worked as a school secretary in Southampton.  After traveling to California, she married Albert Hedges of Bridgehampton and moved there.

Dotty, as she was often known, was a devout Catholic and was a lecturer for many years at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  While raising five children, she often baked chocolate chip cookies and made donuts from scratch.   Her homemade pickles and strawberry jam were always in high demand.  She also enjoyed taking her children to Long Beach and, in later years, to Scott Cameron Beach.  As her children grew older, she began working as a secretary at Bridgehampton Schools where she worked for many years.  During her retirement she often made trips to Florida with her husband Bert.  When they were home in Bridgehampton, they were often seen walking through the village.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Hedges; two sons, Timothy of Southampton and William of Summit, New Jersey and his wife Eileen; three daughters and their husbands; Linda and Randy Newberry of Altamonte Springs, Florida; Judy and Joseph Kahl of Pleasantville, New York and Dorothy and James Walker of Southampton; six grandsons; Jason Newberry, Matthew and Daniel Kahl, Jack and William Hedges and Ethan Walker.  She is also survived by two brothers, Louis Jones of New Hampshire and Thomas Jones of California; and three sisters, Teresa Rapp of Elma, New York; Ethel Glinka of California and Agnes Economos of Riverhead, New York.

Visitation was held on September 13, at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.  A funeral mass was held on September 14, at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton.  Interment followed at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton.
