John B. Westerhoff, Jr. passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. John was born in Southampton on July 23, 1957. He was the son of Gloria (Dietz) and John B. Westerhoff, Sr. of Southampton. He graduated from the Southampton Public school system and earned a degree from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. He was the co-owner/manager of John Duck Jr. restaurant in Southampton, which his family owned for over 100 years. He spent most of his time at John Duck’s working as a host, and bartender while his brother Mark was head chef and manager of the kitchen. For the last 4 years, John was employed as a bartender at the Maidstone Club in Easthampton, NY where he continued to enjoy all the social and working aspects of the restaurant business.   John was a member of the Southampton Fire Police for 27 years and held the rank of Captain. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks in Southampton. He enjoyed volunteering for various events in the community.

John was an avid reader of thrillers and mysteries. He was a huge Grateful Dead fan and an loyal Mets fan. He liked to take his mother out for dinner and he would take occasional day trips to Foxwoods. John loved his trips with his daughter Dyan to various museums in the area and New York City at Christmas time to watch Broadway plays and shows. He enjoyed playing Cribbage with his family. He spent his winters at his home in Mt Dora, Florida where he was a visiting member of the Elks Lodge in Tavares, Florida. John was known for his warm welcoming smile, his stories and of course, his jokes. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who asked.

John is survived by his daughter Dyan J. Westerhoff of Southampton, his mother Gloria of Southampton, his sister Susan Armusewicz and her husband Robert of Watermill, his sister Jan Westerhoff and her partner Judy Parant of Natick, MA, his brother Mark Westerhoff and his wife Elizabeth of Southampton.

He is also survived by his niece Jennifer Warner and her husband Kirk and their children, Kyle and Wesley, his nephew Brian Armusewicz and his wife Marcy and his nephews Christian and Nicolas Westerhoff. He also leaves his three aunts and many cousins. John was pre-deceased by his father John B. Westerhoff, Sr. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Southampton Fire Department Benevolent fund.
