Holly RaynorMarie H. “Holly” Raynor of North Sea died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday evening, June 15th following a long illness. Born Marie Jacqueline Halyburton in Philadelphia, PA in 1924, Holly came to Southampton after the war and married Evremonde J. “Pete” Raynor. Pete and Holly made their home on Noyac Road near North Sea Harbor where they have lived for almost 65 years, and where they raised their seven children, all surviving: Joe, Dave, Mike and Peggy Raynor, all of Southampton; Kathy Raynor Wik of Parrish, FL; Debbie Raynor Schultz of Bremerton, WA; and Bobbi Raynor of Rutledge, PA.The daughter of John and Marion Halyburton, Holly graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia, later serving in the Navy “WAVES” during WWII. After the war, on a trip to Southampton to visit her Navy roommate, Rita Raynor, Holly met Rita’s nephew, Pete and they have been together ever since. The “city girl” from Philly adapted quickly to the different pace of life in North Sea where she spent her early years raising her children. She always enjoyed a circle of close friends and was active in Sacred Hearts parish activities. When the children were older, Holly worked for the NYS Dept. of Labor in Sag Harbor, for Tinker National/Marine Midland banks, and finally for the Morley Agency in Southampton. In her later years, before her illness, Holly enjoyed her grandchildren, and traveled often to visit family around the country. Known for her cooking and warm hospitality, Holly was loved by many in North Sea and beyond. In recent years, as her health deteriorated, Holly was well cared for at home by her husband, Pete, joined more recently by their daughter, Peggy, and her brothers and sisters. To the very end, she greeted everyone who approached her with a warm smile, whether she recognized them or not. She lived a graceful life and died a graceful death. In addition to her 7 children, Holly is survived by her husband, Pete Raynor, 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Elizabeth Mirra of Morton, PA.
