Rose A. Strand

We regretfully announce the passing of Rose A Strand (nee Ach) of Southampton, on August 24th, 2022. Rose was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully at home, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s. Rose was one of the strongest women we’ve known, and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. Rose was born on Sept 4, 1933, in Queens, NY to Rose (Van Keuren) and Raynor W Ach. Siblings William R arrived in August 1939, and sister Frances Virigina (Ginny) arrived in December 1942. Rose graduated from Dominican Commercial, and soon started a career with NY Telephone. This job led her out to Southampton. In 1957 she met Andy, (Donald Andrew Strand of Southampton) and were married in 1958. Together they went on to have a daughter Cynthia A (Cindi) in 1960. Unfortunately, Andy passed away in September 1960 as a result of injuries sustained from a vehicle accident while on duty as a NY State Trooper. In 1973 Rose became friends with John Goleski, and they remained companions until his death in 2011. In 1978, Rose, who managed the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at LIU Southampton, started her college career. One course a semester, starting with Suffolk Community, and culminating in graduation from LIU Southampton with a BS in Business in the mid 90s. Rose was a wonderful and loving mother who raised her daughter in the house she had built in Southampton. She absolutely doted on her grandchildren. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. Rose was predeceased by her husband Andy, her parents Rose and Ray, her brother Billy, her companion John, and her son-in-law Lahsen Boumnaia. Rose is survived by her daughter Cindi (Boumnaia) and her sons Andrew and Benjamin. She is also survived by her sister Ginny (McAuley), her sister-in-law Eileen (Strand) and many nieces and nephews.
