We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at O'Connell-Rothwell Funeral Home
On July 4, 2022, Richard Forrest Counihan, age 65, left this earth to live forever with the Lord. He was born in Southampton, NY on February 19, 1957, to Joseph Forrest and Josephine Counihan. He was the youngest son, pre-deceased by his parents and three siblings, Gregory, Nancy and Thomas. He was a devoted husband to Antoinette, "Poppie" to Theresa and her partner Lesya, loving grandfather to Jeremy, and uncle to Amy, Mercedes, Tommy, Samantha, Ava, and "Uncle Itchy" to Tatum. He was a lifelong learner who remembered lessons from his early education at Sacred Hearts, Tuckahoe School, and Southampton High School. He had many interests, a lot of knowledge, and was willing to give advice to anyone whose ear he could bend. He enjoyed music, taught himself to play guitar, spent years in the church choir, loved singing and dancing at home, and was most often listening to music while riding the mower. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand. "Richie the Sailor" was a true Mariner who adventured the seas of the Peconic and beyond. He will be missed by his mates, neighbors, friends, pets (especially Couni), and by his family who wait to joyfully reunite in heaven.
Richard was laid to rest at the Southampton Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to:
