Nicoletta Gioia Mitchell Obituary

Nicoletta “Nicky” Gioia Mitchell died peacefully at her home in Water Mill, NY on Friday night of natural causes.

Nicky was born in Florence, Italy in 1932 and grew up in Italy during World War ll. After the war she lived in Germany and Belgium before moving to the United States in 1976 when she married Craig Mitchell.

She was well known for her landscapes and seascapes and locally for her beautiful paintings of the East End of Long Island; she exhibited throughout her life in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Nicky also travelled the world where she came to know a variety of interesting and often famous people from all walks of life.

She was the life of the party and had a great sense of humor.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her five nieces and nephews – Niccolo Gioia, Susanna Gioia Giordano, Sabina Gioia Furst, and Luigi and Filippo Rella, and her many great nieces and nephews.

The family will celebrate her life at a private memorial service at a later date.
