Miriam Baskin Obituary

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Miriam Elizabeth Baskin of Southampton, NY passed away on May 30th at the age of 91. Miriam died peacefully, with family, present at the Westhampton Care Center.  On June 4th, due to the current social distancing regulations, a private Funeral Mass was held at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Sacred Heart Parish followed by a burial service at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery. 

Miriam was born on June 5th 1928 in Merrick, NY. Her beloved father was Timothy Fitzgerald and Mother Madeline Hubbard Fitzgerald. She was one of five daughters. Over the course of her life she resided in Merrick, NY, Rockville Center NY, Somers, CT and Southampton, NY.  She married Harry Baskin on May 7th, 1959, who preceded her in 2004. Miriam is proceeded by a loving family of son Robert Baskin of Allentown, PA, daughter Theresa Baskin-Tillotson, Halstead, MN, grandsons Michael Baskin and Bradley Baskin of Allentown, PA, Harrison Tillotson of Devil’s Lake, ND and granddaughter Skye Tillotson of Devils lake, ND and Great Grandson Elliot Tillotson of Devil’s Lake, ND.  She is also proceeded by three sisters Phyllis O’Keefee, Helen Imrie, and Eileen Smith

In addition to being an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Miriam had many interests.  Church and Community services were always a big focus in her life.  She served as a Eucharistic Minister, and organized the Eucharistic Minsters schedule for hospital and nursing homes visits for many years at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Sacred Heart Parish.  Miriam provided cooked dinners for Meals on Wheels, and was active in the 3rd Order of the Franciscans. Miriam loved flowers and was proud of her many beautiful gardens she’s cared for over the years.  Miriam also loved Astronomy and enjoyed identifying the many constellation for her children, grandchildren, friends and family.

Miriam was well respected by all for her faith, principles, persistence, selflessness and optimism.

Due to the current social distancing requirements, the family has the intention to celebrate the life of Miriam Baskin at a future date in Southampton, NY.
