Mary Killoran Obituary

Mary Brown Darden Killoran, daughter of James Darden and Claudia Briggs Darden, was born August 8, 1929 in Water Mill Long Island, New York, and departed on 02/26/2022 at Lower Manhattan NYP Hospital.  Her primary education in Bridgehampton High School and higher education in the City of New York beginning with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from C.F. Young Secretarial School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

In 1995 she was named Woman of The Year in Suffolk County for the greatest contribution to the community for the consecutive time of 10 years. In the year of 1996 she was awarded the Martin Luther King Award for dedicated service as president of the Eastern Long Island Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for 10 years and a member of the Hampton’s Task Force.

In New York City she served as the Secretary for the Board of Directors for 18 years at Southbridge Towers. She also served 4 years as Secretary to the First Precinct Community Council in Lower Manhattan and was appointed to the Downtown Community Broad by the Borough President of Manhattan for 4 years and was Committee Member of the Downtown Democratic Club for 2 terms.

She leaves to mourn her two grandchildren Eric Darden and Shelby Darden, three great grandchildren, Eric Darden, Joy Darden, Randy Lamb, Shelby Darden Jr. and Shelwin Darden of North Caroline, Mary Darden of Riverhead and Marion Darden of Water Mill, host of nieces and nephews. She will be joining her late husband James Killoran. Her son Robert Darden and one late grandson Robert Darden Jr. Along with

Three deceased brothers, James Thomas Darden, Harding Drew Darden and Morris Darden and two sisters Barbara Hubbard and Eva Belle Darden predeceased.

A wake will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 10:30-11:00 AM, with a service beginning at 11:00 AM, at the O'Connell-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 30 Little Plains Road, Southampton, NY. Interment will follow at Southampton Cemetery.
