JOAN HEINZ OBITUARY

Joan M Heinz, 88, of Sacred Heart Senior Living in Center Valley, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Cedar Crest Hospital in Allentown, PA.  Joan previously lived in the Bay View Oaks community in Southampton, Long Island, NY.  She was born in Jamaica, NY on Sept. 12, 1936, the daughter of John Heinz and Anna (Bodwick) Heinz.

Joan attended Jamaica Vocational high school and lived in Queens, NY before moving to Southampton, where her parents had retired.  Joan worked as a banker with Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust Company, which was later acquired by JP Morgan Chase. Joan rose through the ranks to become an officer and served as a branch manager at JFK airport and later at Bay Shore, NY.  Joan retired from the bank in 1991.  Following her retirement, she was active in her community as a crossing guard in the Village of Southampton.  She also served as Treasurer and President of the Bay View Oaks Association.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southampton, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the Secular Franciscan community.  Joan enjoyed fishing, gardening, baseball and visiting with her loved ones. Joan was known for her dependable strength, quick wit, and her endless sense of humor that she maintained until she went to be with the Lord.

Joan is survived by her sisters, Maureen Tyniec, of Center Valley, PA, Karen Fox, of Manorville, NY; her nephew, Michael Tyniec, of Salisbury, PA; her nieces, Karenann Knotoff, of Manorville, NY, Theresa Wilkins, of Southold, NY and Virginia Fey, of Jamesport, NY, as well as grand nieces and nephews; John, Matthew (Alejandra), Ryan, Jake, Olivia, Victoria, Jack and Anna.

Services: A visitation will be held at O’Connell Funeral Home at Little Plains Road in Southampton, NY on Thursday, January 30, 2025.  Family and friends may pay their respects from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart church in Southampton NY at 10 am on Friday, January 31, 2025.  Interment will take place afterward at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, NY.
