Jeanette Teresa Miller of Southampton died peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2023. She was 99. Jeanette was born May 30, 1924, in Bloomfield, N.J. to William Frazier and Helen Hoffman. She was raised in Nutley, NJ. She was the youngest of three children and the only girl. Her dad would affectionately nickname her “Jimmy.” During World War II, she joined the campaign to defend our country working at the Star Electric Defense Company where she met Eugene Miller whom she married. Eugene moved Jeanette to Southampton, Long Island where they started a family.
Jeanette and Eugene started a carting company, Miller Sanitation. She helped run the family business, making appointments, scheduling and keeping the books. Once the business was sold, she began working outside the home in various positions while raising four daughters. In addition to working, she volunteered in the North Sea Ladies Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader for local troops.
In her younger years Jeanette enjoyed tap dancing and was often found in the kitchen dancing with her children to “The Old Soft Shoe.” She enjoyed music, loved singing, playing bingo, cards and making crafts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Miller, and her two brothers, William Frazier of Colorado, Clarence Frazier of New Jersey and her son-in-law, Richard Counihan.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Miller, Linda Turner (Robert), Jeanne Rizzi (Robert), and Antoinette Counihan, her granddaughters, Jeanette Krempler (Matthew), Theresa Counihan (Lesya) and her great-great grandchildren Madilyn Krempler and Jeremy Counihan.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in her memory to East End Hospice. (eeh.org)
She was laid to rest in the family plot at Sacred Hearts Cemetery.
