James Patrick Barrett, Jr.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 3, 1951 James Patrick Barrett Jr. was a lifelong resident of the east end of Long Island. Known to many friends as "Jymo", the founder of Southampton Painting & Contracting, he succumbed to his battle with cancer on November 9, 2011. He is survived by his five children Danielle, Heidi, Shannon, David, and Jamie. An avid music lover with an almost obsessive infatuation with nature and the outdoors, Jim will be sorely missed by those closest to him.
As a child, James moved from Brooklyn to Southampton with his parents James Sr. and Lorraine Barrett along with his brothers Valentine, Eddie, Bruce, and John and his two sisters Lorraine and Christine. He attended Southampton High School and later went on to college at Highland University in New Mexico where he majored in art. After college, James returned to Southampton and would soon meet his future wife Donna. Together they would raise five children and build a home together in East Hampton in 1980.
When he wasn't working or taking family trips to his horse farm in Essex, NY, James could often be found making a pitstop at a concert of his favorite band, The Grateful Dead, or on stage singing with his own band, the Mixed Nuts. James enjoyed fishing, mountain climbing, and above all, loved music, nature and his family. He was a one of a kind man with a warm heart and charisma that is hard to match.
Visitation was held on Sunday at the O'Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. Interment followed at Fort Hill Cemetery in Montauk, NY.

Visitation will be held for 60 year old Southampton resident James Patrick Barrett, Jr. on Sunday from 7-9 PM at the O'Connell Funeral Home, located at 30 Little Plains Rd in Southampton.
