EILEEN MAYER BURKE
Westhampton, NY - EILEEN MAYER BURKE, 95. In the wee hours of March 17, 2024 our beautiful mother “peacefully went home to our Lord”. She was the beloved daughter of Mary C. McGeough and Charles A. Mayer. Her early years were spent in Glendale and Richmond Hill, Queens, New York. She was a proud graduate of THE Mary Louis Academy. From infancy, she was a summer resident of Long Beach, New York. After she married, she spent many happy years raising her family there and worshiping at Saint Ignatius Church. As her family increased in size to nine children, the family moved to Muttontown, NY. In later years, she single-handedly raised her family in Yaphank at Colonial Woods. She was a faithful parishioner at Saint Mark’s Church where she served on the Parish Council. Our mother will be dearly missed by her nine children and their extended families who survive her: Joseph (Kristena Prater) of Aspen, CO, Cathleen (Tom Mason) of Locust Valley, NY, Eileen (James Giotis) of Howell, NJ, Jamesine Burke Clark of Ridgewood, NJ, Maureen (David Jaffe) of Eastport, NY, Maeve Burke Shugrue of Southampton, NY, James (Joan Goodman) of Long Beach, NY, Justin (Gretchen Mueller) of Carmel, CA and Deirdre Burke Dentel of Eastport, NY. She leaves a legacy of strength and faithfulness to inspire her surviving 19 grandchildren: Jasmine (Gabriel Martinez) and Devin Burke, Brendan and Brigid Mason, Alexander(Emily McAuliffe), Nicholas, Christopher and Catharine Giotis, Christian Clark (Katherine Schilling), Hilary and Andrew (Katie Fabiani) Jaffe, Ned (Laura Buck), Charles and Justin Shugrue, Isabelle, Oliver and Max Burke, Pierce and Rory Dentel. It will be up to us to share her life and stories with her 13 surviving and future great grandchildren: Makai, Cash, Wyatt and Weston Martinez, Zen and Zadyn Burke, Brady Giotis, Henry, Thomas, Caroline and Emily Clark, Sophie Jaffe and James Jaffe. She is also survived by her much-loved nephew, Gary Postell (Linda), her sister-in-law-law, Elizabeth McGlynn Burke and Burke nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her only sister, Marion Mayer Postell, her husband, Joseph J. Burke, her dear sons-in-law: Padraic Lawler, Joseph A Clark III and J.Edward Shugrue, as well as her infant granddaughter, Mary Angelica Clark. Our mother will be remembered for her strength and unwavering faith and her desire to impart that faith to each of us through the many holy days and holidays we celebrated together as a family. She will be cherished for her beauty, style, humor and common sense.
